Pantelleria – Taormina (Southern Sicily Tour)
A yacht tour to discover southern Sicily islands and art cities through Pantelleria, Lampedusa, Siracusa and Taormina.
Our first tour stop on the southern Sicily coast is Pantelleria. This is a small island between Sicily and Tunisia (it is actually possible to see the African coast even to the naked eye). The area has volcanic origins, that’s why there are hot springs and vapour emanations. The view is characterized by a sky-blue sea, sea stacks and the “Giardini Panteschi” (panteschi gardens), which are carved into lava rocks and were used to protect the cultivation of citrus fruits.
We adventure further south with our yacht as we reach Lampedusa, the main island of the Pelagie archipelago. This island is closer to the African coast than to the Sicilian coast. It feels like you are on another continent when in Lampedusa, thanks to its wild landscape. The coast is characterized by fascinating escarpments, formed during the centuries thanks to erosion and mysterious sea caves. Furthermore, the island’s perimeter is rich with breathtaking coves (like Cala Greca, Cala Galera, etc.).
After visiting the southernmost part in Italy, the cruise traverses the splendid waters of the Mediterranean Sea and comes back to the Sicilian coast reaching Siracusa. This is one of the most ancient baroque cities in Sicily. A pearl of the Ionian Sea for the splendour of its white-stone architecture. It’s famous for its sunset too: thanks to its peculiar geographic position, they are considered some of the most beautiful in the world.
As we leave Siracusa, our yacht travels back north down the eastern coast until our next stop: the exclusive Taormina. This is of one the most popular and desirable tourist destinations of Sicily, for the beauty of its architectural features and its natural and marine landscapes (one of the highlights is the beach of Isola Bella). The town hosts a historic film festival called “Taormina Film Fest” every year in June. Many past and present film stars strolled down the main square.
